Green Power

Uses of our solar power generators are similar to uses of conventional gasoline or diesel powered generators. These generators, however, represent a little reported emissions problem. Attention to harmful emissions has typically focused on grid power generation and vehicle emissions. Perhaps not surprisingly, off-grid individual generators are a significant contributor to carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrous oxide (NOx) pollution. According to a REPP research report there will be 370k tons of NOx and 16.7M tons of CO2 emissions produced in the US from individual generators in 2010. This is just slightly less than all the power plants in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey combined. These generators are run more frequently in the summer when heightened threats of blackouts are more prevalent and when construction sites are most active. These are the periods in which solar power is typically most reliable. Our aim is to offset as much of the emissions as possible in this often overlooked niche of fossil-fuel based power generation.
